IMG_20161229_154356Kelsi Turner is fascinated by brave people, unique landscapes and true stories.

She likes to study people who do their own thing, make deliberate choices, and create beautiful things whether it is a family, a piece of art, a book, a life.

She is also highly sensitive to place. She seeks connection to the natural world in all her pursuits.

She strives to create beautiful nonfiction books, stories and essays that sing with vitality.

She shares the remarkable stories of brave people and unique places in order to add something lovely to the world, one story at a time.

She graduated from the University of Iowa with a master’s degree in journalism. She has worked as a rhetoric instructor, a web editor and a freelance writer for various publications. Kelsi published two nonfiction books with Capstone Publishing in 2013. She has been a SCBWI member since 2008.

She wrote a column for the Bemidji Pioneer newspaper during 2016, and is in the midst of writing a YA novel and a handful of nonfiction picture books. She is always honing a personal essay.

Her picture-book biography manuscript was named runner-up in the manuscript contest at the Wild, Wild Midwest SCBWI Conference in May 2016.
